Council Meeting Highlights - February 3, 2021

Project Charter for Community Services Master Plan

Council approved the Project Charter for the Middlesex Centre Community Services Master Plan (CSMP) project.

This project seeks to update the CSMP to provide strategic direction to the community services department over the next five years.

The plan will be developed with input from those that use Middlesex Centre community centres, arenas, sports fields, etc. as well as local residents and businesses. Opportunities to provide input will shared on the website and through other channels in the coming months.

Ward Four Council Vacancy

Council received a report from the Clerk outlining options under the Municipal Act to fill the vacant council seat in Ward Four (Komoka/Kilworth area).

Council opted to proceed with appointing the position. This will see the Clerk first approaching the individual who received the most votes in the previous municipal election but was not elected to determine if they are interested and still qualified to fill the vacancy. Should that individual decline, the Municipality will seek applications for the position.

Interim Control By-law

Council passed an Interim Control By-law with respect to consent applications related to residence surplus to a farm operation as a result of consolidation.

The Municipality is in the process of undertaking an Official Plan Review.

As part of the Official Plan Review process, policies related to residence surplus to a farm operation as a result of consolidation have been identified as specifically warranting further study.

The Interim Control By-law temporarily freezes new applications for new residential uses on proposed-to-be-severed parcels in areas designated as Agriculture in the current Official Plan for a period of one year. This temporary freeze ensures that future applications will be considered against any new policies that may result from the Official Plan Review.
