Mayor DeViet's Food Bank Challenge

In April, Mayor Aina DeViet challenged Middlesex Centre residents to a "hair razing" fundraiser for the Ailsa Craig & Area Food Bank.

Thanks to our community's generosity, we raised $5,461 for the food bank, well above the Mayor's target of $5,000!

You can see the Mayor's "new look" and thank-you message on Facebook.

There still time to donate - please see the information below for more on the needs in our area, and how you can make a gift.

The COVID-Cut Challenge

The need

Middlesex Centre residents in need of support are serviced by the Ailsa Craig & Area Food Bank.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the food bank has been hit by a double-whammy:

  1. They had to close their thrift store, funds from which support the food bank.
  2. They are seeing a significant increase in demand for food hampers as more and more people are placed on emergency leave due to the virus.

Donations to the food bank are needed now more than ever.

The challenge

We are all looking a little shaggy these days, with hair salons and barber shops closed due to COVID-19. This lead to the idea of the Mayor's "COVID-Cut" Challenge.

Aina's challenge to Middlesex Centre is this: If as a community we raise $5,000 in donations for the Ailsa Craig and Area Food Bank by Mother's Day, Aina will let her husband cut her hair.  And not just a little bit, but short, almost shaved, shearing!

Assuming Middlesex Centre comes through, Aina will share her before and after looks with you all on Mother's Day.

(Although Mother's Day is past, you can still make a donation - read on!)
