Several sidewalks in Ilderton are planned for sidewalk replacement (repair) or expansion as part of this year’s sidewalk program.
- The work is expected to start May 3rd with substantial completion May 21st (weather dependent).
- The work will see the removal and replacement of sub-standard sidewalks with AODA-compliant sidewalks (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act), as well as the expansion of sidewalks. The sidewalk expansion will provide additional pedestrian connections and complete missing sidewalk links.
- The work includes adding additional connections between neighborhoods and the rail trail, with connection planned to the rail trail from St. George Street and Heritage Drive.
All residents along affected streets were mailed notices of this work through Canada Post on April 19, 2021.
Concern / Response
Staff and Council have received a number of phone calls and emails regarding the sidewalks proposed in Ilderton, specifically along Mill Street and Margaret Street. Residents have mentioned they did not receive notice of the work.
The municipality has since heard anecdotally that Canada Post is experiencing delays, which may explain why some residents received letters and some did not.
At this juncture, based on the feedback and uncertainty with Canada Post delivery of the notices, we will defer sidewalks along Mill Street and Margaret Street for further follow-up and consultation with residents.
Staff will hand-deliver notices advising residents of the deferral. Notices will be delivered between April 28th and 30th.
Note that other sidewalk work will continue as planned.
