At their meeting on November 24, 2021, Council will consider a recommendation from staff on water rates for 2022.
The proposed changes would see:
- the water rate for 2022 remain unchanged from 2021
- the rate for wastewater and stormwater fees increase by 2% for both fixed and volumetric fees
The reason for this increase is to generate additional revenues to ensure funding is in place for infrastructure renewal as set out in the Middlesex Centre Asset Management Plan. This funding is in addition to revenues from new growth (development).
If approved, the average rate impact across water, wastewater and stormwater fees will be a little more than 1% for most users when weighted across the 3 services. The impact to each property will vary slightly depending on water consumption. The greatest percentage increase will be to those who only pay stormwater fees however this will also be the smallest cost increase.
The table below provides a summary of the impact of the rate increases at various usage levels.
