They ensure that we have a safe, clean and reliable water supply, proper wastewater treatment, and well-maintained infrastructure to protect water quality and lower the risk of flooding. It is important to remember that legally all of the costs associated with the water system must be paid for by users.
Rate Changes for 2022
After no increase in 2021, Council has approved:
- “No increase” to the water rate for 2022. The water rate will remain unchanged from the 2020 rate (as there was no increase in 2021); and
- An increase of 2% for both the fixed and volumetric wastewater and stormwater fees.
The reason for this increase is to generate additional revenues to ensure funding is in place for infrastructure renewal as set out in the Middlesex Centre Asset Management Plan. This funding is in addition to revenues from new growth (development).
With this change the average rate impact across water, wastewater and stormwater fees will be about 1.15% for most users when weighted across all three services. The impact to each property will vary slightly depending on water consumption. The greatest percentage increase will be to those who only pay stormwater fees, however this will also be the smallest cost increase.
The table below provides a summary of the annual impact of the rate increases at various usage levels.
|Annual Water Usage (m3) *||Cost in 2021||Cost in 2022||$ Increase||% Increase|
